Famous Dance Forms Of India

India is a land rich in varied cultural heritage. It takes pride in its various art forms like dance, painting, music, etc. Art news suggests that India has a wide variety of dance forms which are all unique and beautiful in their own ways.

Dance Forms of India:

  1. Bharatnatyam: bharatnatyam is derived from the word Bharat which means India and natyam which means Dance. It is usually performed by the temple dancers to please the Gods.
  2. Kathak: this dance form tries to narrate a folk story with its movements. This dance involves a lot of facial expressions as well as intricate movements.
  3. Odissi: this dance form is one of the oldest dance forms of India. Thus dance is performed in order to pay tribute and homage to Lord Jagannath.
  4. Kathakali: this dance forms exhibits multiple art forms like dancing, painting, singing and acting.
  5. Manipuri: this dance form is usually practiced in the districts of Assam. It is performed in the respect of Lord Krishna and Radha.
  6. Kuchipudi: this dance form involves a great deal of skill and precision. It is performed on a single brass plate.
